James W. Thompson III

James Walter Thompson III of Furlong, PA passed away on March 2, 2021 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina in November, 1943 and grew up in Decatur, Georgia. He was in the graduating class of 1961 from Avondale High School. He was a star running back on the Avondale Blue Devils State Championship Team (‘60-61) He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Georgia State University.

He worked in many different fields, such as Pharmaceuticals, Real Estate & Insurance. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed many hobbies and sports; golfing, football and sailing. He was a proud member of the Columbia Presbyterian Church of Decatur, Georgia until moving to Connecticut, then joining the Nichols United Methodist Church now a current member of Covenant Church of Doylestown, PA.

Son of James Walter Thompson II, and Jean Collins. He is survived by Sisters Mary Rose Thompson Simpson and her husband Glenn and Sandra Thompson Waller. Loving Wife Virginia Bruce Thompson, Daughters Bonnie Leight and her husband Ron and Beth Stauffer and her husband Stu. Beloved Grandfather to Kaitlynn Coldren, Tyler and Matthew Hood and Ashley Haelle and her husbandTJ.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave., New Britain, PA 18901.  His service and interment will be held privately.
