Janet A. Cosimo (Giordano)

Our beloved mother, Janet A. Cosimo, nee Giordano, passed away on February 9th, 2021, after a short battle with Covid 19, just 5 weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday. She was born in Newark, NJ and was the daughter of Italian immigrants. Her father, Antonio, came to this country as a very young boy, learned the construction trade, and eventually became a foreman who helped build the Empire State Building, something our family is very proud of. Her mother, Angelina, passed away when Mom was only 11 months old, and never having known her biological mother was a loss that she mourned her entire life. That loss inspired her to be the best mother she could be to us, and we are grateful every day for the love, concern and support she gave us right up until her final days.

Our Mom met our father, Jerry R. Cosimo in Newark, NJ at a local dance hall. She saw Dad from across the room and told her friends that he danced as if he thought he were Fred Astaire! Even though he wasn't, he still managed to sweep her off her feet! They married in 1956 and had a wonderful, loving marriage for 63 years until Dad passed away in July of 2020.

During their marriage they traveled to Italy several times and visited the small villages that their parents were born in. They enjoyed cruising the Caribbean, touring Hawaii and took many trips to Florida. After work and raising us in Churchville, PA, they enjoyed a wonderful 25 year retirement in Brick, NJ at Lions Head South. It was there that Mom became the party planner for the social committee, and thanks to her efforts, many wonderful, catered events complete with live music and beautiful decorations came to life. Anyone who knew my Mom said she was the life of the party, loved to laugh, sing and dance and occasionally even became a little silly after imbibing her favorite drink- the Manhattan!

Our Mom was a sensational Italian cook and everything she made was from scratch and with love. As kids, our friends would love to come to our home, as they were sure to be treated to the wondrous meals that Mom had prepared!

Mom was a competitive bowler, and had a scoring average in the 150s, even into her 80s! She played in a bocce league, shuffleboard league and in her younger days was a terrific softball player and show dancer. Mom was also a wonderful knitter. She knitted many intricate outfits for our Barbie dolls when we were young, and later became a knitter of absolutely gorgeous scarves that we still wear and cherish today!

In these times of prejudice, pettiness and gossip, our mother was never any of those things. Her heart was pure, her words were always kind and without judgment or pretense. She was good and absolutely decent to her core, and a better woman, wife, mother and Nana you could not find. She will be missed, remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. RIP Mom.........Dad is finally happy you are with him and we know you are dancing in Heaven together forever!

Janet is survived by her loving and devoted children: Lisa Uhlman and her wife Susan Buckland of Perkasie, PA, Gerard Cosimo of Palmerton, PA, and Laura Cosimo of Perkasie, PA. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughters Kelsey and Kristen.

Her gathering and Funeral Mass will be held at a future date in the Spring at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 312 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ, followed by her internment with her husband at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, also in East Hanover.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Janet’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Service dates and time will be updated on this website as well as to Facebook by her family.
