Richard Donaghy

Richard V. Donaghy of Southampton, PA died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Jefferson Health Hospice at Warminster.  He was 88.

Richard was the beloved husband of Carmella Pinti Donaghy.

Born in Philadelphia, Richard was the son of the late James and Anna O’Dell Donaghy the brother of the late James (Helen), John (Doris), and William Donaghy and Marie Mc Curdy (Floyd), and the brother-in-law of the late Loretta Pinti and Regina Pinti.

Richard was a proud veteran of the Army who answered the call to service in the name of his Country during the Korean War.  Richard worked for Paper Manufactures from 1949 until 1951 and again from 1962 to 1969.  Richard served in the Army from January 7, 1952 until his Discharge as an E-4 Corporal on January 6, 1955.  He was stationed in Japan from November of 1952 until February of 1953.  After preparing for battle, Richard entered Korea in March of 1953 and would remain there fighting in the War with the 24th Infantry Division until his departure home in August of 1954.  During his time with the Army, Richard was a member of the fighting force that also served on the USS General John Gaffey and the USS John Pope. 

When Richard settled home and returned back to civilian life, he began working with the United States Postal Service at their Hunting Park Location in 1965.  He also worked briefly for UPS in 1967 and ultimately he returned to the United Postal Service to complete a career that spanned from 1967 until his retirement in 1992 as a Letter Carrier based out of the Southampton Post Office.  Richard was elected in 1982 as the Vice President of the Letter Carriers BuxMont Union Local 920.  This was a position he was proud of and remained elected to until he decided to not seek a further term in 2002.

Richard enjoyed Fishing with his friends and travelling with his wife Carmella.  Richard and Carmella traveled to many destinations which included times spent in Hawaii, Bermuda, and Canada.  Richard always enjoyed a good laugh, but he took great pride in his ability to make others laugh and smile.  Richard will be greatly missed as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.

In addition to his wife Carmella, Richard is survived by his loving children: Richard N. Donaghy and his wife Karen Weldon of Philadelphia, Christopher Donaghy and his wife Cynthia of Bedford, NH, and Amy Lynch and her husband Sydney of Jacksonville, FL.  He is also survived by his brother Thomas Donaghy (Renee), his sisters Regina Karcher (late Richard), and Joanne Curry (late Robert), his nine devoted grandchildren Christane Woiderski (Daniel Gibbons), Caitlin Donaghy, Alexander Lynch (Samantha Cardill), Allison D’Alessio (David), Erin Donaghy, Ryan Donaghy (Amanda Flanagan), Lauren Donaghy (James Kominick), Sean Donaghy (Jordan Keil) And Shelby Lynch (Brennen DeFiore), three dear great granddaughters Savannah, Juliana, and Alexandria,  his brothers-in-law Phillip Pinti, Rev. Msgr Domenico C. Pinti, and Eugene D. Pinti, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services and interment for Richard will be held privately at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
