Edward J. Harrigan

Edward J. Harrigan, long time and beloved resident of Gloria Dei in Newtown died peacefully and surrounded by his family on Friday, January 29, 2021. He was 91.

Ed was the loving, and devoted husband of the late Lorraine King Harrigan, with whom he had shared 61 years of marriage, until her death in 2011. Ed and Lorraine cherished the friendships they developed at Gloria Dei, and considered their 20 years there, some of their very best years. His positive attitude was obvious to all. When someone would ask Ed how’s he doing, He would respond, “Fantastic and Amazing!”

Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Francis and Theresa M. Oleschak Harrigan.

Ed graduated from Mastbaum High School and went on to serve proudly with the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he started his long career in Television and Radio Repair, an industry in which his analytical mind was ideally suited. He was one of the first color television specialists in Philadelphia, and worked for Magnavox Corporation, as a field engineer, before embarking on his own, and establishing Ed’s TV, a Bucks County Fixture for many years, and still a recognizable name today.

Ed was diligent and dedicated to his work, and also kind and charitable. First and foremost, the needs of his customers were always his primary concern. To say he was beloved by his clients would be an understatement.

Most important to Ed was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Perhaps, most importantly he was a devoted husband who cared for Lorraine as she battled Parkinson’s Disease for the better part of 20 years of her life. The care he provided her was compassionate, loving, and without reservation. He will always be remembered by his family and will be dearly missed.

Ed is survived by his children, Eileen M. Hering of Lambertville, NJ and Edward J. Harrigan II and his wife, Stephanie, of Holland, PA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Stephanie, Steven (Gina), Matthew and Kevin and his great-grandchildren, Aonalei, Aiyana, Jayden, Abby, and Sophie; his brother Mark Harrigan and, his nephew and “adopted second son”, John Snyder, with whom he spent time with weekly, and enjoyed countless rounds of golf over the years.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Snyder, Frank Harrigan, Joe Harrigan, Dolly Walsh, and Nancy Rowan.

Ed’s services will be held privately, and he will be laid to rest with his wife Lorraine in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation at 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
