Carmen M. Calzarette

Carmen M. Calzarette of Churchville, PA passed from this life into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at St. Mary Medical Center on December 24, 2020.  He was 88.  He was the beloved husband of 58 years to Rita K. (nee Dougherty) Calzarette.  Born in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late Sarah (Isovilli) and Carmen a.k.a. Charles Calzarette.  He played football for North Catholic High School.

Carmen proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon completion of his enlistment, Carmen worked in the Insurance Business at Metropolitan Life, Republic National Life and Chubb Life where he eventually retired after many years of service as a Senior Vice President.

He had a vibrant Christian faith and believed deeply in the saving love of Jesus Christ which was evident in how he lived.  Following his retirement, Carmen worked for 22 years at Calvary Christian Academy, where he coached softball and football.  He worked in the Athletic Department and, for the last 3 years, in the Maintenance Department.  Carmen's true joy came in working with the kids he encountered both on and off the field.  His smile and warmth lit up the halls of CCA where he had an impact on so many.

His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  He coached many of their sports teams, never missed a game or event, and was always at the ready with a story, advice or encouragement.  He enjoyed golf and was an avid Eagles fan who was thrilled to see the Birds finally win a Super Bowl!

In addition to his beloved wife, Rita, Carmen is survived by his loving and devoted children Marie (Brian) Disbrow of Holland, Theresa (Jonathan) Zeller of Harleysville, and Joseph (Lisa) Calzarette of Falling Waters, WV.  He is also survived by his grandsons, Mark Disbrow and Christian Zeller, his sister Jane (Rusty) Bonney, and several nieces and nephews.

Carmen's family will receive friends on January 23, 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia, 13500 Philmont Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19116.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
