Eleanore M. Burgoyne

Eleanore Burgoyne died at her home at the Solana in Warrington, PA on November 15. She was 92. Born May 22, 1928 and raised in Philadelphia, she previously lived in Horsham, PA and Jenkintown, PA.

Loving mother to Pamela Rainey Lawler, Philadelphia, PA; Stephen Rainey (Patricia), Doylestown, PA; and Sidney Rainey, Washington, D.C., she was a devoted grandmother (aka Nani)  to Kristin Lawler, Shane Lawler, Jason Lawler, Stephen Rainey, and Todd Rainey.

She is predeceased by her parents Sidney C. and Marie (Sweeney) Burgoyne and her brothers, Richard and Reverend Sidney as well as her former husband, Carl Rainey.

Eleanore graduated from Cecilian Academy, Pierce College, and Temple University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Her career, developed after raising her own family, focused on the care and wellbeing of young children and extended to South America. She traveled several times to work with Fr. Javier De Nicolo, a Salesian missionary, visionary, and human rights activist best known for his work with children living on the streets of Bogota, Colombia.

Music was a constant source of joy and filled Eleanore’s life and she was an accomplished soprano.

Loved and admired by all who knew her, Eleanore was one of Philabundance’s first supporters, donating a new Ford Econoline van just when the nascent anti-hunger transportation system needed it most.

Because of the risks and limitations of Covid-19, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 21 at noon at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Cheltenham, PA 19150. Friends and family who are able to attend should meet at the Cheltenham Ave. entrance to the cemetery by 11:45AM.
