Patrick Tassos

Patrick Tassos of Pipersville, PA died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.  He was 90.

He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor R. Ward Tassos.

Born in 1930 in Pittsburgh to Greek immigrants John & Helen Tasopoulos (Tassos - shortened on Ellis Island).

Patrick was a devout Pittsburgh sports fan and avidly watched Steelers, Pirates, Penguins games as often as he could. A talented baseball player in his own right, he was scouted as a catcher by the Chicago White Sox.

He lost his father at age 15. Always a hard worker, he worked at many odd jobs in support of his family including working with his father vending roasted peanuts and hand-shaved ice balls in Allegheny Park as a teenager and parking cars in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Patrick began working in the Office of the Prothonotary in Pittsburgh in 1949, then for the Court of Common Pleas as a Court Clerk. During this time he also worked many second jobs including several years as a police officer in Reserve Township, where he was once recognized as Patrolman of the Year and appeared in AAA Magazine.  In 1982 he was transferred to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, where he ultimately served as Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners until his retirement in 1996.

He was known for his generous nature and his sense of humor (there was never a joke so bad that he wouldn’t tell it over and over again), he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family meant everything to him and he was loved by all.

Patrick is survived by his loving and devoted children: James (Jack) Tassos and his wife Frances, Lynn John Tassos and his wife Louise, Patrick A. Tassos and his husband William Reyor III, and Christine Grzymkowski and her husband Steven. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Matthew Tassos (Lauren), Benjamin Tassos (Amy), Lauren Neff (Matthew), Emma, Evan, Olivia, and Sophie Grzymkowski and his great grandchildren: Lilian, Alexandra, and Morrissey Tassos.

Patrick’s family will receive friends on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 1:00pm until his Memorial Service at 2:30 in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 East butler Avenue (at Sandy Ridge Rd.) New Britain, PA 18901.  Interment will be private.
