Peter Joseph Gallo, Jr.

On July 13, 2020, we lost a loving father and brother: Peter J. Gallo, Jr., aged 65.

Peter was preceded in death by his wife Sally Ann (Provost) Gallo.

Born in Philadelphia, Peter was the father of Peter J. Gallo III and son of the late Peter J. Sr. and Dorothy Mildred (Woodruff) Gallo, and brother to the late Joseph M. Gallo.

He is survived by his loving son Peter J. Gallo, III, his siblings; Carol Ann Pottichen (Patrick) and Michael A. Gallo (Mary Beth), along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Peter grew up in Roslyn and Gwynedd Valley. He was a graduate of Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, Pa., where he fell in love and married his high school sweetheart Sally Ann. Most of Peter’s adult life was spent in the food services industry along with his father and 2 bothers. Peter established his own successful food distribution company, Spring House Provisions. Peter then moved on to the brokerage side of the business, founding Performance Food Brokers. Peter was extremely entrepreneurial and creative, developing several products and labeling designs that are still in circulation today.

Peter was inducted into The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, a fraternal organization whose history dates to the War of 1812. This organization is involved with various charitable activities in times of natural disasters throughout the US. Peter was also a member of the Workshop on the Water housed in the Philadelphia Independence Seaport Museum.

Peter had many passions throughout his life. He was an avid collector and was a talented woodworker, antique rug and furniture expert and an accomplished sailboat and antique boat tender restorer and builder. He often included his son, Peter, on many of these boating and fishing excursions, along with attending many professional sporting events.

Later in life, he partnered with his brother Joseph in a pest control service business, while continuing his hobbies. He also was instrumental in helping his son Peter launch a successful water feature and landscape design company, Philadelphia Waterscapes. Peter attributes his entrepreneurial and business success to his father and the legacy he leaves behind.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Mass 11:00 AM at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 2316 Fairhill Avenue, Glenside, PA 19038. Peter’s interment will be held privately after the service.
