Robert J. Shirley

Robert “Bob” James Shirley of New Hope, PA passed away peacefully at home with his family on May 23rd, 2020 after a short illness. He was 82.

Bob was preceded in death by his wives, Suzanne (1992) and Anita (2018) and his stepson, Jack Giampolo.

He was beloved by all who knew him for his gentle demeanor and dry wit, and will be sorely missed.

Bob was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Philip Shirley and Florence Shugard Shirley. A graduate of Roselle Park High School in 1956, he served in the 50th Armored Division of the New Jersey Army National Guard, and had a long career as a driver for the United Parcel Service. He loved his dogs, working on cars, golfing, Florida sunshine and traveling by cruise, the New York Yankees, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his children: Robert Shirley and fiancée Pamela Weis, Scott and Donna Shirley, John and Lori Giampolo,­­ and Thomas and Christin Giampolo; his grandchildren Joseph, Natalie, Nicholas, and Anthony Shirley, Sara Stone, Alison, Jack, Olivia, and Thomas Giampolo; a great-grandson, Sullivan Stone; and his siblings Philip, Catherine, and Charles Shirley, Patricia Lelli, and Helen Nocera.

Services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans Department of New Jersey (DAVNJ), 171 Jersey St., Building #5, 2nd Floor, Trenton, NJ 08611, or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
