Alfred Wissmann
Alfred Wissmann, of Philadelphia, PA died on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at Delaware Valley Veterans Home, Philadelphia. He was 89.
He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Irene Kawczynski (Kaufman) Wissmann.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mathilde Stadele Wissmann, father of the late John Wissmann and brother of the late William and George Wissmann
Alfred was a graduate of St. Veronica Catholic Grade School and North Catholic High School class of 1948 in Philadelphia, PA. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy from 1948 – 1952 receiving an Honorable Discharge. He studied aviation mechanics and traveled all over the world while serving in the Navy. After leaving the Navy, he pursued his dream of working with aircraft. He studied airframe and power plant mechanics at Embry Riddle School of Aviation in Miami, Florida. His first job was at Wings, Inc. in Blue Bell, PA from 1954 – 1959 and then at Atlantic Aviation from 1959 – 1974. In 1974 he joined Altair Airlines where he stayed until 1977 when he joined Pennwalt Corporation as an airplane mechanic and inspector for their corporate aircraft. In 1988, he went to work for Pan Am Express which later became TWA Express at Northeast Philadelphia Airport where he retired from in 1995.
He was married for 50 years to his beautiful wife, Irene, who was the love of his life. They raised three children Robert, Barbara and John who were the pride of their lives. He and Irene loved their four grandchildren, Robert Jr., Elizabeth, Karl and Andrew. They enjoyed many birthday parties, trips to the beach and watching their grandchildren’s sports events especially baseball, soccer, swimming and lacrosse. His hobbies included reading, old movies, jigsaw and word puzzles, and spending time with his family. He was quite the handyman and could fix just about anything. He was a devout Catholic, strong in his faith and prayed the rosary every day.
Due to the current gathering limitations, his Funeral Mass and interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be held privately.
