John Gilbert

John Gilbert of Levittown, a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, died on Friday, February 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family and was reunited in heaven with his beloved daughter, Denise Stanley and other loved ones. He was 76.

John was the husband of his high school sweetheart,Yvonne Beitler Gilbert with whom he had shared 55 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Ernest and Pauline Malinowski Gilbert.

John led a long career with U.S. Steel, retiring after 34 years of faithful service from the role of Tin Finishing Supervisor.  In an effort to keep him busy and out of trouble in retirement, his daughter Denise would connect him with Bob Burness, who he would work for in various capacities in, putting his extensive “Mr. Fix It” skills to good use.

In his leisure time, John enjoyed golfing, the beach, and vacationing with family and friends.  He was the best Pop-Pop to his adoring grandchildren, never missing one of their activities.  John possessed a quiet kindness and his selflessness was without measure.  He always put the needs of others before his own and did it quietly and never for recognition.  He will be dearly missed and his memory treasured by all whose lives he touched.

In addition to his wife, John leaves behind his daughter, Rochelle Ashley (Mark) of Sarasota Beach, FL, his son-in-law, Ken Stanley of Newtown, his grandchildren Michael and Megan Stanley; his brother, Francis Gilbert (Betty Lou) and his “Bonus Son” Bob Burness (Doris).

In addition to his daughter, John was preceded in death by his brothers , Frank Gilbert and Kenneth Gilbert (late Joanne).

Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Memorial Service on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Fallsington United Methodist Church, 55 Lacross St., Fallsington, PA 19054.  His interment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
