Karen Lisa Smith

Karen Lisa Smith of Warminster died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health, surrounded by the love of those nearest and dearest to her.  She was 32.

A devoted and loving daughter, Karen was born in Philadelphia to Douglas J. and Karen L. Smith of Warminster.

She was the loving and devoted companion and Angel on earth to Jeffrey Watson Jr. and affectionately known to Jeff’s son, Landen, simply as “Kare Kare”.  Together they shared two years of love, laughter and family as they ventured through life.

Along their journey Karen and Jeff  had two non-surviving daughters, Ava and Autumn, who provided an infinite amount of hope and light. Even though their life on earth was not to be (Autumn passing away just days before her mom and Ava a year ago), they were loved immeasurably.

Karen graduated from William Tennent High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from West Chester University immediately followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Drexel University.  She was devoted to her career and was most recently caring for patients at Aria-Jefferson Health-Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia in the Emergency Department and Trauma Center.  She also enjoyed the beach and countless vacations to Wildwood, NJ.

Karen was selfless both in her work and her personal life, always putting the needs of others, including the strangers she would care for at the hospital, before her own.  She had a heart of gold and was sweet, loving and caring, while at the same time confident, independent, and strong willed.  Sometimes a force to be reckoned with, you always knew how much you were loved by her and how much she truly cared.  Her death leaves many broken hearts but also a multitude of precious memories.  She will be missed and never, ever forgotten.

In addition to Jeff and her parents, Karen leaves behind her sisters, Amanda L. Langford (Matt) of Warminster and Erin L. Smith of Warminster.  She was the loving “Aunt Kern” of Brielle and Colton Langford and the adoring “dog mom” of her Boxer, Jaxson.  She is also survived by Jeff’s parents, Carol and Jeffrey Watson, Sr.; his Aunt Lisa Yandrasits , Godparents Steve and Mary Smith; and was also loved by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than there are stars in the sky. Additionally, she will be greatly missed by her Jefferson Torresdale family!  Karen was also preceded in death by her Grandparents John and Louise Schneider and James and Wilma Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather and greet Karen’s family on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 10:00 AM until her Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 241 E. Butler Ave. (at Sandy Ridge Rd.), New Britain, PA 18901.  Her interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen’s memory to the Karen Smith Nursing Scholarship online at https://giving.jefferson.edu/giving-guide/give/karen-smith-nursing-scholarship.html or by mail to the Karen Smith Nursing Scholarship, c/o the Jefferson Office of Institutional Advancement, 125 S. 9th St., Suite 600, Philadelphia, PA 19107.  Donations may also be directed to Every Mother Counts, 180 Varick Street Suite 1116, New York, NY 10014.
