John J. "Bloke" Hope

John Joseph “Bloke” Hope, of Milton, DE passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Bayhealth Center in Milford, DE.  He was 68.

He was born on September 23, 1950 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Jackson and Catherine Hope.

John graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia, PA, class of 1968. He proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from June of 1968 to December of 1970. John married the love of his life, Mariatheresa Hope on September 14, 1975. He made his career as an Insulator and Asbestos worker for the Local 14, where he retired in 2005.

In his spare time, John enjoyed going fishing, hunting, target shooting, hanging out with family, walking on the beach, and taking long rides on his motorcycle. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division #39.

Mr. Hope is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Mariatheresa "Terry" Hope. Mr. Hope was the devoted father of Deanne Hope, Sara Hope McDonnell, Molly Bruski, and Nioclas Hope; father in law to Christopher Langiotti, Casey McDonnell, Theodore Bruski, and Mary Jane Hope; loving Poppy to John Ryne, Kyle and Zachary Bruski, Lucy and Declan McDonnell, and McKenna Hope. He is also survived by his siblings: James Hope, K. Hope Stelweck, Helen Jackson, Christine Hope, Francis Hope, as well as all of their spouses; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, February 22, 2019 from 9:30 A.M. until his Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 1071 Holland Road, Holland, PA 18966. His interment will be private. A reception will follow mass at the Irish Rover.
