William P. Mauro

It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” Mauro announces his passing on January 14, 2019, at his Ivyland residence at the age of 80. Born in Blawnox, PA, he was the son of the late William P. and Lucy M. Ferrone Mauro and the brother of the late John Mauro. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Nan Brennan Mauro, his children, Elizabeth Barry (Edmond), Jennifer Ehresman (Eric), Gregory Mauro (Catherine) and Molly Manney (Francis). He is also survived by his brother Gerry Mauro (Terri), his sister-in-laws Gloria Mauro and Judy Brennan and his 6 grandchildren: Mackenzie, Will, Aiden, Connor, Kyle and Emily.

A popular administrator, educator and basketball coach, Bill taught in Cinnaminson, NJ and Abington, PA before his 36-year career at Council Rock High School where he made enduring friendships with colleagues and students.  Bill also coached basketball at Montgomery County Community College and Bucks County Community College. An active volunteer in Northampton Township, Bill served on the Parks & Recreation Board, volunteered for the American Heart Association and coached many youth sports teams.

A lifelong athlete, Mauro graduated from North Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh where he lettered in basketball, made it to the NCAA Tournament, led the Panthers in best free throw percentage in a single season (87.7) for 29 years and was a team captain.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Temple University and his Administrative Certificate from the College of New Jersey.

Bill had an infectious smile and a competitive spirit.  He was an avid golfer from the age of 12 and had a passion for cooking.   He also loved family gatherings, traveling abroad, and visiting Hilton Head Island, SC each year.
